Which review score is displayed in the widgets?

There are two answers to this question.

Your widget is synchronized with your review forest.

It accesses the data of the connected review platform(s).

So if you have a simple review forest that is connected to only one review profile on one review platform (e.g. Google), then all your widgets will display the review score that your business has on that platform.

If your review forest is connected to several of your profiles on different platforms, your widget displays the weighted average as the review score.

This means: platforms with more reviews have a greater influence on the overall score than platforms with fewer reviews.

Example

Your review forest is connected to two review platforms. On the platforms your business have different review scores and a different number of reviews.

  • Platform A: ⭐️ 4.4 with 569 reviews
  • Platform B: ⭐️ 3.2 with 10 reviews

The weighted average is calculated as follows:

[(ReviewScoreA × ReviewNumberA) + (ReviewScoreB × ReviewNumberB)] ÷ (ReviewNumberA + ReviewNumberB)

And if we insert the values from the example, the following is calculated:

[(4.4 × 569) + (3.2 × 10)] ÷ (569 + 10)

Rounded, this results in a weighted review score of 4.4.

So in this example, the widget will display 4.4 as the review score on the widget.

Why do we use the weighted average?

There are two reasons for this:

  • A review score with many reviews is more meaningful than one with only a few.
  • Weighting ensures that the overall score reflects the actual customer experience as accurately as possible.
